12th century Mosaic – Duomo of Monreale, Italy
Visio Divina
Ask for the grace to see and receive from the Holy. Sit silently and contemplate the image for a few minutes.
What word or phrase comes to mind? What emotion arises?
Who are the characters in the scene? What is the posture of the two blind men? What is Jesus wearing, what is he holding?
Note the shapes, colors, the lighting. Can you discern the minute tesserae, the pieces of glass used to create the entire scene?
Continue to sit quietly with this painting.
Jesus asked the two men, “What do you want me to do for you?”
Jesus asks us the same question. What is your desire? What are you hoping for? Can you name those places of need and ask for healing?
If you’re not ready to name this tender place, simply ask God for the grace to do so. And wait, listen, be still. Be compassionate with yourself.
Carry this image in your mind through the day.
Ask and allow the Spirit to remind you that Jesus has compassion for you. And grace upon grace. Simply receive and know that you are loved beyond measure.
